Best pickleball shorts

Two details matter most with shorts: inseam length and pockets.

Inseam. Selkirk's men's short is 9 inches, which gives you more coverage. Selkirk's women's Essentials short is 5 inches, which leaves your legs freer to move. Check the size chart before you order.

Pockets. If you want to carry a ball between points, look for a pocket made for one. Selkirk's Pro Line shorts for women say they're built for it. The men's picks have side pockets and a back or zippered pocket. I've noted the ones that don't mention pockets.

Benefits of pickleball-specific clothing

Pickleball has a lot of quick starts, stops and reaches. Clothes that stretch and move with you make that easier. Pockets that hold a ball are a bonus, and many pickleball dresses and skirts have them.

You'll also look the part. That counts for something when you're playing with friends or heading to a tournament.
