The SwiftNet 2.1 is the fastest and easiest net to assemble of any I've tested so far. Assembling portable pickleball nets can be a pain, but I've not found that with the SwiftNet. It takes me half the time to set up than even the best of its competitors, including the PickleNet Deluxe on this list.
It has over 200 5-star reviews on Pickleball Central, which says it all. This net delivers unbeatable value and will last you a long time.
Who it suits
This is a great piece of equipment for players of all levels who want a pop-up net system that can be carried anywhere. If you've struggled with assembling portable nets before, this one's for you.
special offer

Features
The SwiftNet uses a clever system of lightweight uprights attached to splayed feet (carbon fiber) with the net strung between them. A long boom is then assembled like a tent pole and attached to both uprights.
To make the net more rigid, this pole is then bent down to the bottom edge of the net and strapped in place, creating an arch shape. Finally, the top cord of the net is tightened using a simple pull cord system.
Design and feel
The build of this net system feels almost like a high-quality tent with its detachable poles on an elasticated shock cord, and lightweight aluminum uprights.
The SwiftNet is made in the home of pickleball (Washington) from recycled aeronautical components sourced from the Carbon Recycling Technology Center (CRTC).
Performance
These nets truly work on the courts. The top cord of the net acts like the cable on a permanent net. This keeps it super taut, so when a ball hits it, it reacts more like a permanent net.
The clever boom design means there's no center support to get in the way of your shots. The flexibility of the boom and the feet means players can fall onto them without breaking them—they just spring back into shape.
The net is designed to have fewer protruding parts, so you don't have to worry about obstacles getting in the way. Also, despite the net being lightweight, it's surprisingly wind-resistant thanks to its stable design.
Value for money
At $369.99, this portable net system isn't cheap, but it's built to last and comes with a one-year warranty.

My verdict
The SwiftNet 2.1 takes the top spot this year as there's simply none other out there like it. It's lightweight, super easy to use, durable, and can maintain tension even with extended play. It's premium priced but well worth the investment in my opinion.

The PickleNet is sturdy, reliable, easy to assemble, and simply the best net you can buy under $200. This is one of the most popular portable nets out there as it assembles in minutes, maintains its height and tension, is built to last, and won't break the bank.
I left the classic PickleNet from OnCourt OffCourt off last year's list simply because it was out of stock. Now it's back and has taken second place.
Who it suits
This PickleNet will suit anyone looking for a reliable regulation net at a budget-friendly price. It's very popular with pickleball clubs, schools, and rec centers. The oval tubing means it works well for outdoor play—even in windy conditions—but is best stored indoors.
special offer

Save 10% with code PICKLEHEADS and get free pickleballs and a duffel bag

Features
OnCourt OffCourt have honed this net over the years to produce this simple but user-friendly system.
The steel tubing is oval-shaped, which adds strength to prevent bending and twisting, as well as sagging of the net. It also makes for faster set-up of the frame, as does the molded center support.
Design and feel
It's obvious that each element of this net has been tested on the courts because it feels really user-friendly and plays super well. The steel elements are powder-coated to avoid scratches and rust, so I'm confident this net will last through countless play sessions.
The elasticated bottom on the net helps to take tension off the net itself, which reduces wear and tear and makes it last longer.
I like how the whole net easily comes apart into 15 components, making it ready to be packed away neatly in the heavy-duty carry bag when needed. The bag also has compartments with dividers and straps to keep the components secure when packed away.
Performance
After setting up the net in record time (usually less than 5 minutes), it's ready to play a full, regulation match. The rectangular center strap means you get a consistent, regulation net height of 34", meaning no surprises mid-game.
Meanwhile, the net adjustment straps and elasticated net bottom offer great net tension to stop it from sagging halfway through a session.
Value for money
At just under $190, this net isn't the cheapest on the list. However, for its build quality and simple assembly, I think it offers great value for money.

My verdict
This net ticks all the boxes for me. It's easy to set up, packs away neatly, offers consistent tension, and is built to last. The PickleNet Classic is a tournament-quality net for an affordable price.

If you want a quality pickleball net at a bargain price, this is my pick for you. This is the net you buy when you want to get out on the courts without spending a fortune.
The ZENY keeps its position as my favorite cheap net again in 2024, as when it comes to quality-to-price ratio, it can't be beaten. It's almost identical in design and features to my favorite net under $200, the PickleNet Classic.
The difference comes in the quality and durability of the materials, but that's what you'd expect for a net that's a third of the price.
Who it's for
I realize not everyone has the money to spend on a premium pickleball net, so I added this for those on a budget. This net is great for pickleball clubs and organizers, for those times when an extra court is needed on the fly.
It's also an excellent choice if you want to practice pickleball at home in your backyard or driveway.
Features
The ZENY system features a regulation-size net with a metal frame. The steel is reinforced for strength and powder-coated to slow down rust build-up. The supports for the uprights also feature extra bars to make it even stronger.
The net itself is made from a durable, all-weather material (polyester tetoron fiber). It stays taut and secure with adjustable straps on the posts, while a fiberglass rod sits in the middle to stop the net from sagging.
Brandon Mackie assembling the ZENY portable pickleball net
Brandon Mackie assembling the ZENY portable pickleball net
Design and feel
For the price, this net looks and feels surprisingly good. While the steel tubing is not up to the standard of the SwiftNet, it's 25mm thick and reinforced at the weak points.
The carry bag is a little flimsy, but the whole assembly weighs only 18 lbs, so this shouldn't be a problem.
Performance
The ZENY net performs great. It's easy to set up and take down, and is lightweight enough to carry around with ease. The components are numbered and they easily clip together.
The adjustable straps keep the top of the net tight, making the net solid and reliable once it's all assembled. That said, this net can blow over in windy conditions. However, this can be easily avoided by adding a little weight to each leg.
Value for money
At just under $80, this net is a true bargain. Some nets on Amazon are twice the price yet don't offer any more than the ZENY.
star icon
My verdict
There's very little to find fault with here. Sure, it's not built with quite the same quality of materials as the more expensive offerings like the SwiftNet 2.1. However, it's far from being cheaply built, despite the price tag. Overall, I'd say it's excellent value for money.

Hybrid steel and aluminum oval tubing

The PickleNet Deluxe is the 4-wheeled version of my number two pick, the PickleNet Classic. It held onto its title as the best portable net on wheels in 2024.
However, it has moved up a couple of points in the rankings because Max Ade, my fellow co-founder at Pickleheads, uses it frequently and swears by it.
Who it suits
This net is ideal for pickleball coaches and organizers. It's sturdily built to withstand plenty of court time and can be easily pushed around whenever necessary—perfect if you're organizing an open play session.
special offer

Save 10% with code PICKLEHEADS and get free pickleballs and a duffel bag

Features
The PickleNet Deluxe is made from 1.5" by 3" metal tubing, so it's more heavy-duty than most other nets I've tried. It's strong, sturdy, and resistant to wind and tough court conditions.
The 4" wheels make it super easy to transport this net to and from the courts. Then, when you're ready for a game, they lock into place with brakes so you don't have to worry about it going anywhere.
The velcro straps on the top also allow you to tighten the net to stop it from sagging.
Design and feel
This net is a sturdier version of my top pick, the SwiftNet 2.1. While the PickleNet uses heavier metal in the tubing, it offsets the extra weight by using more aluminum in the build.
The net still ends up heavier than the SwiftNet (at 42 lbs), but this extra density makes it more solid when assembled. Plus, the tubing is oval-shaped to add strength. It also reduces the risk of bending and twisting when you're transporting it.
I really like the duffel bag it comes with because it's divided into compartments. Once everything is packed away, these keep all the components from shifting around, avoiding damage. The bag also comes with wheels, making it easy to move around despite the extra weight.
Performance
The PickleNet Deluxe offers ultimate playability and portability. Once assembled, it's a full-regulation-size net. Plus, the velcro tensioning system means you can keep it at the perfect height. Balls can also roll under the net which means less time collecting stray pickleballs.
The high-quality wheeled bag takes the stress out of moving the net to and from the courts.
Value for money
At $460, this portable net system isn't cheap, but that's because it's built with top-quality materials.
star icon
My verdict
The PickleNet Deluxe from OnCourt OffCourt is my top pick on wheels and one I'd recommend to pickleball instructors and organizers. The build quality is top-notch, and the wheeled bag makes it super easy to transport and set up where you need it.

The Douglas is still my favorite professional net in 2024, despite a lot of tough competition from big brands like Selkirk and JOOLA. I still feel like it offers the best value for the hefty investment and has the experience and customer service to back it up.
Who it suits
This net is great for those who want the playability of a permanent net without the cost and hassle of drilling holes and pouring concrete.
It's ideal for courts and clubs that also host tennis and other sports alongside pickleball. I'd also recommend it for home set-ups that can't have permanent alterations to their yards or sports areas.
Used by pro court complexes and tournaments across the country, this net will truly last a lifetime.
special offer

Save 10% with code PICKLEHEADS and get free oversize shipping

Features
The Douglas is a true heavyweight piece of machinery, with a built-in gear system to keep the net taut. This keeps the net tension at 400-500 lbs—close to the tension of a permanent net.
The built-in, heavy-duty wheels fold away when playing, while allowing you to move the unit around easily when needed.
Design and feel
This net system feels heavy-duty and seriously premium quality. Given the 215 lb weight, portability isn't its strongest suit. However, it can still be taken down and reassembled as needed, and stored away when not in use.
The steel is thick, heavy, and finished with a baked-on powder coating. The net is made from thick, braided polyester with a 285 lb break strength for maximum durability. This is a serious bit of equipment that's built to last.
Performance
The heavy-duty casters are great for moving the net system around. Once assembled, the whole net can be rolled out of the way by a couple of people.
The axle then flips up to allow the posts to sit firmly on the ground. These 3" posts have flat stabilizer legs that give rigid stability without damaging the surface underneath.
This net won't shrink, sag, tear, or develop rot. All components are weather-treated and approved for use all year round—even in the toughest of conditions.
Value for money
At $2299, this net is a serious investment, but it's truly built to last a lifetime.
star icon
My verdict
This net is ideal for anyone looking to set up a court for professional or competitive play. If you have the budget and want a permanent-style net, you'll get a lot out of this net.

If you're worried about how your net will hold up under intense sun, rain, or wind, this is my top pick for you.
I play a lot of pickleball in the hot Phoenix desert, and I've seen the damage the sun can do to equipment left outdoors. The PICKLETECH outdoor net is designed with extra durable materials that will last longer in the elements.
Who it suits
This is for those who need a net that can stand up to both extreme sun and wet conditions. It's ideal for players who want to leave their net in place throughout the season and not worry too much about it getting damaged.
Features
This PICKLETECH net comes in 15 pieces, including the net and a fiberglass center support pole. The base frame and arch poles feature reinforced buttresses, and the frame is made from 16 mm steel. All connection poles are 12 mm thick steel and clip together using push-button locks.
In the center of the net, a fiberglass support pole ensures the net keeps its regulation height. Meanwhile, anti-slip rubber pads under the base poles help bring extra stability.
Design and feel
From the reinforced steel joints to the anti-slip rubber feet, this net feels sturdily built. The whole system comes packed up in a heavy-duty 620D Oxford carry bag, and surprisingly weighs just 23 lbs.
Performance
This is a solidly built, easy-to-use net that can be left out on the courts in all kinds of weather. It's also quick to set up (around 5 minutes with two adults).
I'm impressed with how tight the net is straight out of the box. It slacks off a little over time, but it's easy to tighten up again.
Value for money
At only $130, this net is surprisingly affordable when you consider the quality of the materials used.

My verdict
If you play a lot of outdoor pickleball (especially in hot or wet conditions), you'll want a net built specifically for the outdoors. The PICKLETECH 3.0 portable net offers excellent performance at a friendly price.

The VENUX pickleball net set offers everything you need to get a doubles game underway, without having to purchase a bunch of other gear.
Along with the net, you get a set of pickleball balls, a carry bag, and even four beginner pickleball paddles, making it a perfect pick for families looking to get everything in a single purchase.
Who it's for
I'd recommend this to beginner pickleheads looking to set up a game indoors or outdoors. It's also ideal for kids and anyone who teaches pickleball to new players.
Features
This net set includes a regulation-size portable net, four modern paddles, and ten pickleballs. The set even includes a pickleball bag for the net and paddles, as well as overgrips for those who find the paddle handles too small.
Design and feel
The paddles are made from lightweight fiberglass and graphite with a honeycomb core, which is common even among modern high-end pickleball paddles. The net itself is made with a sturdy metal frame and durable PVC tarps for the end covers.
Performance
This set offers plenty of performance for beginners or younger players setting out on their pickleball journey. While the paddles are modern and lightweight, they are not professional by any means, and even intermediates will find them lacking.
The portable net is well-built and seems durable for the price. The system for keeping the net taut is basic and will need readjusting regularly, but assembly and disassembly are quick. What's more, the whole set can fold away neatly into the carry bag.
Value for money
For under $160, this set allows four people to play a full-size pickleball game on the fly.

My verdict
This basic kit is great value for money and offers beginners a chance to get started on their pickleball journeys without too much investment.

How to choose the best net for pickleball

Max Ade standing with the OnCourt OffCourt PickleNet Deluxe pickleball net
Max Ade, co-founder of Pickleheads, standing with the OnCourt OffCourt PickleNet Deluxe pickleball net

Regulation-size pickleball nets

If you want to set up real pickleball games, make sure you're buying a net with the proper measurements.

The net should be 22' wide, overlapping the 20' court on either side so that the posts are not on the court. The net is meant to be 36" high at the sideline and 34" at the center of the court.

Learn more about pickleball net height

Durability

Think about what conditions the net will be used in. Will you use it mainly indoors or outdoors? Make sure the net that you're buying will be able to withstand what you put it through.

Remember: spending more upfront for a quality net is better than having to replace a cheap net system that'll fall apart after a few uses.

Find the perfect paddle

Find the perfect paddle

I've personally tested over 80 paddles. Take the quiz to see which ones fit your game best.

Take Paddle Fitting Quiz

Portability and weight

Consider whether you'll need to transport your net often. How quickly will you need to set it up? Are wheels a must for you?

Portability and weight can factor into which pickleball net will work best for you. Make sure you're not buying a net that's too heavy or one that'll be impossible to put together quickly.

Quality of materials

You get what you pay for. You'll find many cheaper pickleball nets than the ones on this list. However, in my experience, those are usually made from poor-quality materials that won't hold up after frequent use.

Ensure your pickleball net system will last as long as you need it. So, it's worth investing in the best pickleball equipment for your budget. If yours is sub-par quality, you'll only end up buying a replacement net.

Price

An expensive pickleball net is not always the best. You'll find plenty of nets priced as "deluxe", and yet don't deliver nearly enough in performance.

Also, consider how often you'll be using the net before paying $100s for a premium, regulation-size system. If it's going to sit in the garage for most of the year, you might prefer a more affordable option.

Lastly, use coupons when you can! Dozens of stores offer coupon codes for pickleball equipment. Look for them before you checkout.

Why do you need a portable pickleball net?

They're great for getting in plenty of practice time

Pickleball's popularity has skyrocketed in recent years. What was once a purely amateur pastime has suddenly gone pro, with Major League Pickleball teams now competing on TV.

Learn everything you need to know about pickleball

Younger and more athletic players have now joined the scene. Competition can be fierce, even at local clubs and court facilities.

The best way to boost your skills is with practice—especially with regular pickleball drills to target weaker areas. What's more, having a portable pickleball net at your disposal means you can still get practice in—even if you can't get to a dedicated court.

Brandon Mackie performing a dink during a pickleball singles game

You can even play on a tennis court if there aren't any pickleball courts available. They're often empty and can be easily adapted for pickleball.

If you don't have a partner, you can always try a pickleball machine to boost your training sessions. All that practice will pay off the next time you face up to a rival on the permanent courts.

You can play at home

Another benefit of a portable pickleball net is that you can play at home in your backyard or driveway. Setting up your own pickleball court is a great way to share your love of the sport with your friends and family.

While many wouldn't be convinced to go on a trip to play at a public court, who could resist the chance to play in the comfort of your home?

Bottom line

That's my rundown of the best pickleball nets in 2024. The SwiftNet 2.1 is the best in my opinion—it offers a sturdily built, easy-to-assemble, and affordable pop-up net.

Here are my top five picks:

  1. SwiftNet 2.1 - Best overall
  2. PickleNet Portable Pickleball Net System - Best under $200
  3. ZENY Portable Pickleball Net Set System - Best cheap
  4. OnCourt OffCourt PickleNet Deluxe - Best on wheels
  5. Douglas Premier PPS-22SQ - Best professional

Just remember: the number one net for me may be very different for you, so be sure to compare the analysis above before making a purchase.
