Anyone who knows me knows I’m a bit of a fitness nut – I like to keep in shape. Part of my daily routine is adding electrolytes to my water in my Hydro Flask, which I always take to the courts.
Electrolytes help me stay hydrated and feel on top of my game, especially living in Arizona where the dry heat means a lot of sweaty, long pickleball sessions. If you don’t properly hydrate, your pickleball performance drops off considerably – more unforced errors, less mental focus, more losses. Hydration is key no matter where you play.
I haven’t switched up my electrolyte brand for two years, so I was intrigued to try something new. I got turned onto SLAMIT by Kyle Koszuta (That Pickleball Guy), and Tanner Tomassi who are big fans of the brand. I also saw that PPA pros Anna Bright and Zane Navratil are on the SLAMIT ownership team and helped develop the products so that made me even more curious.
SLAMIT is a new brand and they're pickleball-obsessed. They spare no expense sourcing the most premium ingredients. They have a Hydrate blend and a Focus blend. For my review, I took their Watermelon Winner and Lemonade Lob Hydrate mixes to the courts over a couple of weeks, and here’s how I feel about it.
Here's my video checking out SLAMIT Hydrate for the first time:

What’s in SLAMIT Hydrate?
SLAMIT uses six electrolytes in their Hydrate mix compared to most brands which have only three. They have double the electrolytes of leading brands like Liquid I.V. with 2278 mg vs 930 mg. There’s the usual sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium in here, with some unique additional ingredients I really like.
Here’s what stands out:
Baja Gold® Sea Salt
Rival products use processed table salt as their main source of sodium but SLAMIT is the only electrolyte brand using unprocessed Baja Gold® Sea Salt which is hand-harvested and sun dried from the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. This is the type of sea salt you’ll find in high-end stores like Whole Foods, and SLAMIT claims it’s the most expensive salt in the world.
They also say it’s the most nutritious salt in the world, with 90 trace minerals. This is important because when you sweat you lose minerals (electrolytes) so it’s important to re-mineralize to hydrate your body.
Real coconut water
The fact that there’s coconut water powder in here is really cool. I love coconut water because it’s rich in potassium – it’s what I reach for when I'm feeling dehydrated, so having that formulated in is awesome. Potassium can help prevent cramping so it’s great that SLAMIT has double the potassium of other brands I've seen.
HydroPrime®
This is a “patented hydration accelerator” that boosts hydration by 24% over straight-up water. The science behind it is impressive. No other electrolyte brand uses it, which makes SLAMIT special.
No junk
SLAMIT Hydration is free of sugar, caffeine, soy, dairy, and gluten. It’s non-GMO and contains no artificial sweeteners, colors, preservatives, or flavors yet it surprisingly tastes really good.

How SLAMIT Hydrate performs
Taste
The taste is really good, natural, and potent. It actually tastes like watermelon and lemonade, without the bad aftertaste some electrolyte powders have.
Salt quality
SLAMIT says that superior salt is their secret weapon. That's because 80% of the minerals we lose in our sweat comes from sodium. Other brands use refined table salt that's been processed and bleached until its natural minerals are gone.
SLAMIT is the first one I've seen that uses premium sea salt. It enhances the flavor and locks in all the nutrients, boosting hydration big time. Better salt also helps you recover faster.
Electrolyte ratios
SLAMIT has way more electrolytes compared to other leading brands, with 2278 mg compared to the 1260 mg of LMNT and 930 mg Liquid I.V. That makes each packet more potent.
Even more important is the ratio of these electrolytes. Compared to LMNT, there's less sodium in SLAMIT (680 vs 1000 mg). There's more potassium (460 vs 200 mg) and magnesium (85 vs 60 mg).
Overall hydration
This is the most important category. I could talk up the taste and ingredients all day but if I don't feel hydrated after using this product, none of that matters.
After using SLAMIT for a few weeks now, I have to say I feel better. It's the most hydrated I've felt playing pickleball. That's the real reason I'm switching over to SLAMIT from now on.
How does SLAMIT compare to others?
I’ve never felt the need to switch my electrolytes before trying SLAMIT, but this has quickly become my new number one. They’ve put a lot of thought into their formula. Here are some other pros and cons compared to rival brands:
Pros
Made with premium ingredients:
other brands don’t have ingredients like Baja Gold® Sea Salt and HydroPrime®.
Strong guarantee:
they offer to refund you if you drink SLAMIT and don’t play better pickleball.
For a good cause:
for every follower that SLAMIT Hydration gets on Instagram or Facebook, they donate $1 to help underprivileged kids attend their pickleball clinics.
Cons
Just two flavors to choose from:
flavor selection is limited (just watermelon and lemonade) but I hear they have new flavors coming out soon.
Pricey:
at $49 a bag they are one of the more expensive electrolytes on the market. However, they use premium ingredients not found in other brands, so you get what you pay for. They also have discounts available when you buy in bundles, which lowers the price, and we’ve got a 10% discount for Pickleheads readers.
Why you should consider using electrolytes
I can’t recommend using electrolytes enough. They've made a huge difference to how I feel and play on the courts, and my wellbeing in general. I use them every day.
I feel a massive difference with electrolytes compared to plain water or energy drinks with artificial ingredients like Gatorade and Powerade. I get more energy, feel hydrated when I’m playing, and have no weird hangups afterward like headaches or energy crashes.

Who SLAMIT Hydration is for
I recommend SLAMIT for serious players who want a premium electrolyte powder that tastes great. It’s my top choice and definitely better for you than artificial energy drinks like Gatorade and Powerade when playing pickleball. Those sports drinks are not giving you the nutrients you need to stay hydrated. You’ll feel a huge difference after drinking this. Better hydration equals better pickleball.
If you’ve been feeling generally dehydrated during or after pickleball, try this out. If you already use electrolytes but they don’t have the best and purest ingredients, this is the cleanest, most premium you can get.
