A quick guide to DUPR
DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is a rating system used by everyone from rec players to pros. It's the standard for competitive pickleball.
When you get a DUPR rating, you are given a pickleball skill level between 2.0 and 8.0 that's based on real-game data. This rating updates automatically every time you share match results.
Your rating is not just influenced by whether you win or lose. Your opponent's rating, the win/loss margin, frequency of play, and the type of match (rec play vs structured play) all impact your rating.
It's free to get a DUPR rating, and any player can get one – even if you only play rec matches.
How to get a DUPR rating – why DUPR on Demand is different
While it's easy to get an official DUPR rating (simply sign up and log match results), it's not always accurate.
Since most players are logging results from unverified rec play, their DUPR rating isn't always a true reflection of their skill level. This leads to mismatched games, frustration on the court, and barriers to joining leagues, tournaments, and organized events.
DUPR on Demand changes all that. You can now get DUPR-rated by simply uploading a short video of you playing. This can be footage from a tournament, league play, casual game, or even a practice session. A certified DUPR coach will then review your video and give you a verified DUPR rating.
This gives you a much more accurate DUPR rating because it's based on your real abilities rather than match results. The DUPR coach assesses various aspects of your game, including technique, strategy, shot selection, and overall skill level.
The best part? This rating is officially recognized and can be used anywhere DUPR ratings are accepted.
Why players and organizers care about DUPR
DUPR brings a more competitive edge to pickleball, since players have an incentive to win matches and improve their DUPR score. It lets you track your progress and improve your skills. It also lets you enter more competitions since many tournaments, round robins, and leagues require you to have a DUPR rating.
If you're a pickleball organizer, DUPR ratings help you create fair matchups when running events. This way, you won't have to learn everyone's skill level or worry about complaints from players if they're paired up wrong.
So, whether you're looking to compete in tournaments or just play more balanced games, a DUPR rating helps massively.
