Getting a new player into your session is the easy part. Getting them into your group is what matters, because that's how they hear about the next one.
Until now, that meant a second ask: another invite from you, another accept from them. Most of your crew takes care of it, but there are always a few stragglers who don't.
And until every last player is in your group, you're stuck posting the link in the old text thread for the ones who never joined. Two systems, for the sake of two players.
Now you can link a group to your session, and anyone who signs up to play is added to your group automatically. No invite to send, nothing to accept, and no more stragglers. Here's how to set it up.
How to set it up
1. Link a group to your session
When you create or edit a session, find the Add players to a group section, just under Add a co-host. It's on web and in the app, and it works on new sessions and ones already on the calendar.
You have two options:
- Create a new group. Give it a name and a skill range and you're done. It starts private, with group chat on, so it's ready to be home base from day one.
- Link an existing group. Pick any group you admin from the list.
đź’ˇ Good to know: linking works on sessions that already have signups, too. Everyone signed up, including the waitlist, is added to the group the moment you link it.
2. Share your session link like you always do
Group chat, text thread, a post at your court. Nothing new to learn: your session link is now also the way into your group.
3. Let the group build itself
Every player who signs up is added to your group. That includes players who sign themselves up, players you add yourself, and players synced from partner platforms like CourtReserve.
For your players, it's seamless. There's no group invite to accept. The group simply appears in their app, and they can leave anytime.
Don't worry, anyone you remove from your group is never auto-added back.
đź’ˇ Good to know: auto-add builds your group, but it never sends invites. To invite the group to a session, use Invite Groups in the invite widget after session creation.
When to use it
- Turn first-timers into regulars. Someone new signs up, plays, and they're in your group, included the next time you invite it. Every session feeds the group, so it stays current with the people actually showing up. Growing your crew becomes one sentence: "Wanna join? Here's the link to the next session: [your link]. Sign up and you'll be added to our group too!"
- Automate your weekly sessions. When you create a weekly session, link your group in two spots: Add players to a group, and Invite These Groups Weekly. Prefer to hand-pick who makes the cut? Create a new catch-all group to link to your sessions instead, and it'll fill with players you know show up. A regular can't make it? Invite the catch-all and the spot fills fast. Your main group stays untouched.
