My pickleball journey

I discovered Pickleball at the Family Fitness Center in Bellevue, WA in the mid-eighties. I would walk down to the club after High School (until my buddy got a car) to practice racquetball but they had pickleball courts and my brother, dad and good friends would all play. It was just as fun then as it is today. And yes, we used wooden racquets!

Fun fact: I was the 1985 National Doubles Champion with my partner Darin Randles in the Open Division. The event was run by Pickleball Hall of Famer Sid Williams, Founder and President of the sports first organized association (USAPA) in 1984. Most of the players were from Washington and it was nothing like today but I still have the trophy :)

Pickleball is the best as it re-ignites the fire in athletes from all different sports to start competing again, regardless of age. I was personally out of sports for 13 years with health issues until I decided to come back to play in 2021.
Like so many others, it has changed my life for the better. I may not be able to play 5 or 6 days a week, but every time I'm on the court it's like being transported back in time. My Mom, Brother and especially my Dad (rest in peace) are all happy to see me back on the court and that's the best part about it.

If you are active on Instagram I run a page called Pickleball Focus that I'd love for you to check out. I try to film top pros and up-and-comers. I've had some sort of racquet or paddle in my hand for a long time and I'm hoping you'll enjoy some of the feedback I provide during my time with Pickleheads.
