USA Pickleball names Pickleheads an Official Technology Partner for Rec Play

Big news. We've expanded our partnership with USA Pickleball, and Pickleheads is now an Official Technology Partner for Rec Play. That means our league, round robin, and organized play software now carries the endorsement of the sport's national governing body.

This is a big deal for us, and we think it's a big deal for the sport. Here's what's happening, why it matters, and what it means for you.

What's launching

USA Pickleball is using our league software to power their own USAP-owned and operated leagues. We've already ran a successful pilot in Glendale throughout April, paving the path for AZ and leagues to roll out in early June.

These aren't co-branded marketing events. USA Pickleball is building a real league program, run on Pickleheads, with the same tools our organizers already use: 11 round robin formats ranging from social to competitive, automated standings, and a great on-court experience designed to pack as many fun games into each league night as possible.

What makes these leagues different from those already running on Pickleheads? USA Pickleball is bringing things that only they can bring:

  • Something for every level. Leagues structured so newer players can play with others at their skill level without the intimidation of showing up to open play. Competitive divisions for players who want more.
  • More than just local bragging rights. USA Pickleball is exploring ways for league play to count for something beyond your local standings. What that looks like is still taking shape, but the idea is that your weekly games could eventually connect to something larger within the USA Pickleball ecosystem. Players who get in early and start competing now will be in the best position if and when that rolls out.
  • Insurance and gear for organizers. Organizers running USAP leagues get operational backing from USA Pickleball, including insurance coverage and access to gear partnerships like Franklin supplying balls to get leagues off the ground.

We'll share league locations and more details as they're confirmed.

What this means for players

Here's what a great pickleball league looks like.

You show up on Tuesday night. You already know who you're playing. You're matched against people at your level and rotate partners every round, so you're always meeting someone new.

The session runs for an hour or two. You get lots of games in, not one or two. Your wins, losses, and stats are tracked automatically. You watch your name climb the standings after each session.

When the last regular season game wraps, there's a playoff bracket. Whether you were playing for glory or just for fun, you had a great time.

That's what USAP leagues on Pickleheads are built to deliver, every week: court assignments, matchups, and live scores right in the app. Meeting good people and playing great games.

And because these are USA Pickleball leagues, there's potential for your games to count toward something beyond your local standings. USA Pickleball is exploring what that looks like, and players who are competing from the start will have the advantage when it takes shape.

What this means for organizers and facilities

Right now, this partnership covers the leagues that USA Pickleball is directly operating. But the vision is bigger than that.

We're building toward a future where any organizer can run a USAP-certified league on Pickleheads. That means your league, at your facility or your local courts, with the USA Pickleball seal of approval.

Certified organizers would get access to the same benefits: insurance, gear partnerships, and a connection to whatever broader recognition system USA Pickleball builds around league play.

The partnership gives a pathway for certified league operators to get complimentary access to our league software (when participants have a Pickleheads Plus account) or a significant discount on Ultra for those who prefer to cover the software cost themselves.

We'll announce more when the certified league program opens up. If you want to be first in line, reach out to us.

Why this matters for pickleball

As pickleball matures, the player base is spreading across a wider range of skill levels. Showing up for open play and hoping for competitive, fun games gets harder. Organized play solves that. Leagues, ladders, round robins, and tournaments give players skill-based games, every time, with people they actually want to play with.

That's been our bet from the beginning. And now the organization that governs the sport is making the same bet, investing in organized play as the backbone of rec pickleball in the United States and choosing Pickleheads to power it.

We think this is the beginning of something that could change how millions of people experience pickleball. Not just finding a court, but finding their league. Their ladder. Their Tuesday night crew. Every game tracked, every result counted, every player on the right court.

Our partnership with USA Pickleball

We first partnered with USA Pickleball in April 2024 as their official court and game finder. That partnership gave players access to the most complete database of pickleball courts in the country, backed by USAP's network of over 2,200 ambassadors keeping court and schedule information up to date.

That part of the partnership remains fully in place. What's changed is that USA Pickleball has now endorsed the other half of what we do: the league, round robin, ladder, and tournament software that powers organized play for thousands of organizers every week.

Being an "Official Technology Partner for Rec Play" covers the full picture, from finding a court to running what happens on it.

Bottom line

Our partnership with USA Pickleball started with helping players find courts. Now it's about the thing that actually keeps them coming back: great organized play, every week, powered by software that handles the hard parts.

USAP leagues launch this spring. The certified league program for organizers is coming after that. And every bit of it runs on the same Pickleheads tools that thousands of organizers already trust.

We're honored that USA Pickleball chose us. Now let's go run some leagues!
